Dec 10, 2017 RFP Released for ABS Ureka
The UREKA - India project aims to leverage technology through multiple entry points for UK Alumni and students across generations and connect them on a single platform to enhance collaboration and networking for furthering their skills and for professional development
The objectives include: (i) to collate alumni data; (ii) to conduct geographical mapping of alumni; (iii) to categorise alumni requirements under three heads, viz., professional, personal and social; (iv) to offer customised settings according to user preferences; (v) to enhance skills development; (vi) to establish platform for networking and interaction; (vii) to facilitate fund-raising.
It’s a project initiated by the Association of British Scholars Chennai (ABS Chennai), with funding from British Council India.

June 21, 2013 Chennai's diverse habitat sustained variety of wildlife
It was an eye-opener of an evening at the British Council on Thursday last evening, as nature writer and polymath S Theodore Baskaran took up as the subject for his discourse, the severely attenuated wildlife and ecological acreage of Chennai. This was the third talk in the Gazeteer Lecture Series organized by ABS Chennai.
June 17, 2013 The Nawab’s charities
As part of the Gazetteer Lecture Series by ABS Chennai, Prof. Vidya Srinivasan spoke on ‘Social Welfare’, recounting how institutionalised welfare in Madras had its beginnings in St. Mary’s Church in the Fort where the congregation initiated a charity school and orphanages that led to what is known as St. George’s H.S. School today and poor relief measures that sowed the seeds for the Monegar Choultry and the Friend in Need Society. It was at the question and answer session that followed that the Nawab of the Carnatic’s name cropped up. Read more
April 15, 2013 Travel Grant for Artists
Talented artists who are waiting for that crucial international exposure to reach out to a wider audience, may find just that through the “ABS Chennai Artists’ Travel Grant 2013”. The grant offered by the Association of British Scholars, includes return air-fare and a stipend to take care of stay and living expenses during the period of their course or work in the U.K. More details can be found here.
Dec 16, 2012 A historic vow revisited
ABS Chennai launched Usha Rajagopalan’s book Panchali’s Pledge, a translation of Subramania Bharati’s epic Panchali Sabadham. Ms. Usha Rajagopalan, is a Charles Wallace India Trust Translation Fellow and worked on her translation of Tamil poet Subramania Bharati’s Panchali’s Pledge while in residence at British Centre for Literary Translation in 2011.
